Representatives of Guernsey’s blue light services gather at the Arsenal Fire HQ.
The 9 September is Emergency Services Day and serving staff gathered for a short service to remember colleagues who’d lost their lives or been injured while carrying out their duty.
It was held at 9am, to represent the 9th hour of the 9th day of the 9th month – 999.
Chief Fire Officer Jon Le Page hosted the parade:
“We are there to support the community in their times of need. Whether it be an RTC, a fire, a crime, an issue at sea, a heart attack, a missing person, or one of a huge number of other potential incidents; as a group, Guernsey’s emergency services are always prepared to put themselves in harm’s way to help others.”
Harbour Master David Barker said it was about recognising the sacrifices made:
“It is an opportunity to thank everyone who has been, and will continue to, work so hard to keep the community safe. In particular I would like to thank the volunteers who crew our RNLI lifeboats, Channel Islands Air Search aircraft and the Flying Christine marine ambulance, all of whom do a fantastic job, often in very challenging circumstances.”
