Storm preparedness advice for Guernsey air passengers and boat owners

Aurigny is offering flexibility over travel while Ports wants boat owners to secure their vessels.

As Storm Austen forms in the Atlantic, the first named storm of the autumn, Aurigny is preparing for the potential for flight disruption.

Over the coming two days (21 to 23 October) it is offering certain passengers the option to swap flights.

This applies to all Alderney flights, certain regional services tomorrow (22 October) and all Guernsey routes on Friday, (23 October).

Eligible passengers are being contacted by the airline, which says if the Storm stops safe flying, full refunds will apply.

Clive Acton heads up customer services at Aurigny:

“We hope this additional flexibility will provide our communities with some reassurance and greater certainty as they make their travel plans during this period of unsettled weather.”

Meanwhile, all boat owners are being asked by Guernsey Ports to check their moorings and stow or remove any loose items.

St Peter Port harbour infrastructure is being moved ashore to avoid damage.

In January this year, Storm Goretti dented one of the large commercial gangplanks.

The exact track of Storm Austen remains uncertain, but forecasters agree that the Channel Islands and the south west of England will be in the path of high winds, with gusts up to 70mph or more possible.
